Our project
BYTES FOR ALL
Bytes for All
… is a CyberLynx project to bridge the digital divide.
CyberLynx, a Bandon 501(c)3 nonprofit, is refurbishing donated laptops and granting them to low-income individuals and to local nonprofits.
The refurbished computer will let you
- access email,
- search the Web,
- use Zoom,
- use online word processing and other apps like Google Docs,
- and do a lot more. See “Laptop Description”
Refurbishing Laptops
We update donated laptops with the Chrome OS Flex operating system to turn them into easy-to-use Chromebook systems. We are taking devices bound for the trash and making them useful again! And helping the community!
Providing Training
CyberLynx has developed guides and links to help recipients learn how to use their new Chromebooks. We also offer a monthly walk-in support lab at the Bandon Library to give you support and answer your questions.
Requesting Funding
Each laptop takes, on average, an investment of $200 to upgrade so we can deliver a tested and reliable working Chromebook system with battery life, power cord & adapter, sufficient memory, etc. Your financial support is welcome.
Granting Free Laptops
We will distribute refurbished laptops to eligible low-income individuals like students, the elderly, foster children, disabled vets and families. Nonprofit organizations serving the Bandon community are also eligible.
Accepting Donations
Are you getting a new laptop and want to safely get rid of your old one? Donate it to CyberLynx.
- It’s tax deductible.
- You are helping to recycle a device destined to be e-waste.
- You are assured that all the data on your hard drive is professionally removed – thus protecting your privacy.
- You have the satisfaction of knowing you’ve provided a computer to someone who couldn’t afford one.
